Interim Chief Chris O'Keefe reported to trustees that the police department has stepped up motor-vehicle enforcement and high-visibility details targeted at speeders and cell-phone use. "The ticket writing has gone up quite a bit," he said, and said the department tries to station officers in known speeding corridors and near the public-safety building.
O'Keefe told the board he had renegotiated camera-contract pricing, reducing an initial figure around $111,000 to roughly $88,000–$89,000. He also said he applied for a small-rural-department grant that would require a local match; if approved, the grant would be for $50,000 and the town should hear a decision in about three weeks. Trustees thanked the chief for grant work and discussed adding enforcement presence for upcoming public events.
