Committee approves beer-and-wine license for Supreme Station at 2130 W. Galena

The Aurora Public Health, Safety and Transportation Committee voted 5-0 to approve a beer-and-wine liquor license application for Supreme Station, operated by DHA Aurora LLC at 2130 West Galena Boulevard in Ward 6. Alderwoman Smith moved to approve the application and Alderman Bugg seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
City Clerk Jennifer Stallings introduced the applicant and said Mohammed Mohsen is the site's 80% owner. Mohsen told the committee, "My name is Mohammed Mohsen, and I'm, like, the owner," and described his company's retail experience, saying "we have around 30 gas stations" in Illinois and that the team is "Bassett certified" to manage day-to-day operations. Mohsen said the location would sell beer and wine only and that sales would be restricted to the hours required by city code.
Committee members pressed staff on how the city monitors alcohol sales at 24-hour stations. Clerk Stallings said the clerk's office "doesn't necessarily have the means" to directly ensure compliance and that the city relies on businesses to provide hours and on the police department to enforce illegal sales. Mohsen offered to supply POS reports or receipts to inspectors or the police if requested: "we are happy to provide any of the receipts to the police department."
Chair Alderman Franco, who said he lives near the site, urged the applicant to clean debris on the north side of the property before the item goes to full City Council in two weeks, recalling a recent instance where a different station cleared problems quickly when seeking a license: "the area has to be cleaner." Mohsen pledged to address the cleanup and said he would request city guidance on tree trimming to improve visibility.
The committee also discussed storefront signage and affiliation. A committee member asked whether the station remained affiliated with 7-Eleven; Mohsen said it is a separate entity and that all 7-Eleven signage "is already gone." The committee recorded no opposing votes. The clerk noted the Committee of the Whole meets next week and said staff would call the applicant to Council if outstanding concerns remain.
