Jackson County's county engineer recommended awarding the FY27 motor-grader contract to the low bidder, Martin Equipment, for a John Deere model. The low bid recorded in the county bid packet was $420,000; the engineer said both bidders proposed machinery meeting the county's specifications and recommended awarding to the low bidder.
Engineer Jaden Schackl explained the department's fleet plan: rather than trading the oldest grader, the department intends to retain an extra grader as a spare to ensure continuity in winter operations. "So given that both graders met spec and [given] the cost difference, we recommend awarding the John Deere to Martin Equipment," Schackl said.
The board moved and approved the award to the low bidder. The transcript reads the second bid amount unclearly in the meeting packet; the engineer confirmed the low-bid price of $420,000 and the board voted to accept the recommendation.
