Jackson County Board approves 2025 Certified Local Government annual report

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted to approve the Historic Preservation Commission's 2025 certified local government (CLG) annual report and authorized the chair to sign and submit the report to maintain the county's CLG standing.
Laura Carson, representing the Historic Preservation Commission, told the board that Jackson County's CLG status "is a state program funded by the federal government" and that maintaining certification makes the county eligible for training, resources and grants. Carson said the report summarizes 2025 activities and includes the commission's work plan for 2026.
Board members asked clarifying questions about items in the work plan, including how maintenance and outside funding for county-owned historic properties would be handled. The commission said it has been coordinating with the Jackson County Conservation Board and partner programs to identify funding streams and to limit liability exposure at fragile sites.
The board moved to approve the annual report and authorize the chair to sign; the motion passed on a voice vote. The approval preserves the county's ability to apply for CLG-related grants and training opportunities in 2026.
