Village wastewater committee presses forward as state ARPA deadlines loom

The Village Wastewater Committee updated the Londonderry Selectboard on engineering, site testing and the tight state timelines attached to nearly $7.9 million in ARPA Clean Water funding for village sewer systems. Committee chair Gail Mann told the board the dollars are time-limited and urged community backing.
Committee members said soils testing at several candidate sites returned mixed results: library-owned land in the south village is marginal for a full system, while other private parcels are under active consideration. Mann said the project will expand housing and business opportunities in the villages if the town can secure land and meet state milestones. "This is a once-in-a-generation funding opportunity that should not be missed," she told the Selectboard.
Town staff and the committee also discussed public outreach and coordination with the Windham Regional Commission and Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation for financial and project administration. Selectboard members asked for a clearer cost and connection policy for potential users, and the committee said further engineering would be needed before a formal financing plan can be presented to voters. The board authorized limited field testing and continued coordination with state and regional partners as the committee moves toward designs and local approvals.
