Board adopts seven‑year strategic plan, emphasizes civic engagement and multilingualism

The Healdsburg Unified board voted unanimously to adopt a seven‑year strategic plan that lays out four primary goal areas and three cross‑cutting strands intended to guide district priorities and resource alignment. Superintendent (speaker 3) framed the document as a 129‑step action plan, noting more than 25% of the actions are intended to begin in year one and describing the plan as both ambitious and implementation‑focused.

Two public commenters urged specific emphases. Natalie Winkler told the board she expected a robust Spanish bilingual pathway available to all HUSD students, arguing ‘‘Spanish as a core subject, not an enrichment program,’’ and offered concrete suggestions including daily Spanish instruction, grade‑level scope and sequence, and incentives for bilingual teacher hires (Natalie Winkler, speaker 7). Board discussion focused on how the district will implement multilingualism and civic engagement goals. The superintendent said Spanish expansion work will begin this fall with Spanish teachers developing a TK–12 scope and sequence and confirmed the district created a full‑time junior‑high Spanish position for the coming year.
