The Castle Hills Board of Adjustment approved a variance allowing an accessory carport to be constructed in front of the principal structure at 204 Caladium. Applicant Scott Rebecca Baker described the proposal as a protective measure for vehicles given local weather and site constraints.
Baker told the board, "We're asking for a variance today so that we can put a carport to cover and protect our cars from the sun and the, hail, here in South Texas." Baker said the property has more than 70 mature oak trees and an unfinished alley that is unpaved and ungraded, making rear access and grading expensive or impractical. Staff and board members discussed code definitions and whether the proposed structure would be attached; staff described "attached" as a common wall and enclosure on three sides and confirmed the proposal functions as a carport attached to the roofline but without a doorway in the common wall.
No return notices were received from neighbors. After questions about materials, roof pitch and the packet illustration, a motion to approve was made and seconded; the board voted unanimously to grant the variance as presented.
