Committee presses for radio training and a satellite internet backup

Committee members said radio programming and a clear training plan are immediate priorities for Connex operations. The Chair said she will identify "a couple of people at each Connex to be the key people there" and asked James to prepare radio-operating instructions and run a training session at the January meeting. One member described typical handheld ranges: "normal ones, 1 to 3 miles or less if there's obstructions, and they make long range models up to 9 miles."
The committee also discussed a satellite internet option for redundancy so city hall systems and voice-over‑Internet phones could remain online if the main connection goes down. "In theory, the way it'll work is our city hall firewall has a... backup Internet setting so that the main Internet goes down," a member said of a Starlink‑type installation; members agreed to check compatibility and whether the device could be installed at city hall first.
