Council discusses $1,500 training line for elected officials
Summary
Council reviewed a $1,500 training line in the council budget (about $250 per elected official). Members debated whether to adopt a policy for reimbursement when costs exceed the line and agreed that training opportunities should not be unduly limited by the allocation.

Mayor Joni Harris told the council that the elected body has a $1,500 budget line for training and materials — roughly $250 per elected official. "There's about $250 per elected official that you could use to take classes," she said, citing offerings from the League of Kansas Municipalities.
Council members discussed whether to adopt a formal reimbursement policy for officials who spend more than the allocation or to allow flexibility by drawing from other budget lines when training is deemed important. Members stressed fiscal stewardship: training is supported but public accountability for taxpayer funds matters.
