Mayor Joni Harris proposed establishing a structured quarterly departmental budget-review process to strengthen communication, accountability and financial transparency for the city council and community. "This would be the purpose of this would be to establish a structured quarterly departmental budget review process that strengthens communication, accountability, and financial transparency for the city council and the Kechi community," she said. She proposed holding the reviews on the fourth Thursday in April, July, October and January and asked department heads to present their departmental budget reports in those months.
City Administrator Gensby and staff told the council they already produce a comprehensive document that shows revenues, expenses and trends, and that it can be customized to show department-level variances and capital-improvement information. Financial consultant Matt Vaughn will present updated information at the March 26 meeting. Council members emphasized the need for a simpler, public-friendly presentation that shows how each departmental allocation is being spent and asked staff to provide a tailored draft for the next meeting.
