District lays out five‑year arts roadmap, hires elementary arts teacher and plans community integration

"The arts education plan was created over a 2 year process after the Proposition 28 funding came along," Tiffany Dougherty told trustees as she introduced the professional learning team’s work.
Presenters described classroom integration across visual art, drama, music, dance and digital arts, including hands-on projects that link local soil to ceramics sold in community venues and plans to tile a new pizza oven with campus-specific clay tiles. Maria Hadley and Linus Lancaster highlighted partnerships and student-driven projects, and staff said the district hired an elementary arts teacher (Autumn Phipps) who will work four days per week at selected elementary sites starting in August to expand access and arts integration.
Trustees praised the committee’s work and discussed plans for a follow-up symposium and community displays. Staff said Year 2 will focus on professional learning, formative assessment and clear learning progressions tied to student work evidence.
