Opponents cited the district’s recent budget cuts and the potential opportunity cost of allocating what one trustee estimated could total roughly $264,000 over a four‑year trustee term. "Personally, I'm gonna go ahead and say that I don't wanna approve this because it is coming out of the general fund, and that is a lot of money," another trustee said. The board discussed compromise figures (including $700) and whether benefits should be included; by majority, trustees decided not to move forward at this meeting and asked staff to place the item on a future agenda once the budget is clearer (target August).
