The Director of Public Safety reported July 28 that departments have been focused on processing firework citation hearings and handling routine medical and parking calls. "At the top of my head, I believe the police department gave 12 [fireworks citations], and then through the drone I believe it was 22," the director said, adding that he did not have exact numbers at hand and that full reports are in the meeting binder.
Council members and residents raised concerns about police staffing as the city grows. Public commenter George Alvarez said public safety should be the "number one" issue and questioned whether the city has enough officers to meet demand. Staff said the majority of recent service calls are parking-related and tied to downtown construction activity that blocks work and generates 72-hour and other violations. The council did not take an immediate policy vote; staff encouraged review of the written police and fire reports included in the meeting packet.
