Staff discussed rising landfill closure costs after a long period with flat estimates and mentioned the POSI machine might extend cell life by five to ten years but will not eliminate the need to plan for closure and remediation expenses. “Last f y 24 was a year that those closure costs were actually increased for the 1st time in a long, long time,” the Clerk said, and recommended earmarking reserves and improving financial reporting to clarify how closure and expansion projects are funded.
