Sheriff’s fuel request prompts county to consider moving $14,000 from drone fund
Summary
Staff told commissioners the Sheriff requested $260,000 for jail fuel while the clerk's recommendation was $190,000; staff proposed moving $14,000 budgeted for a drone into the fuel line to raise the allocation near $204,000 pending usage verification.

Clerk said the Sheriff reached out asking for $260,000 for jail fuel, while the clerk's recommendation had reduced that to $190,000 based on assumptions about fuel prices. Staff warned that the jail is entering busier months and that $190,000 could leave the fuel line overdrawn.
To address the shortfall without increasing the overall budget, Clerk proposed reallocating $14,000 budgeted in property acquisitions for a drone into the jail fuel line. “If we would take that away and move that up to the fuel line item, that would allow them to put that at 204,” the Clerk said. Staff also planned to obtain Road and Bridge actual gallons‑used data and average June usage to confirm whether the increase will be sufficient for August–September.
