After years of complaints, board orders compliance reports and schedules show-cause hearing for All Star Auto Salvage

Neighbors from Division Street and surrounding areas told the Select Board on July 27 that operations at All Star Auto Salvage have caused persistent noise, heavy truck traffic and impacts on quality of life. Several residents urged enforcement action and expressed concern about environmental risks tied to salvage-yard operations.

Michelle Leber, a Division Street resident, said repeated outreach had not solved the problem: "All Star Salvage ... has made living at our home unbearable," she told the board. Multiple neighbors corroborated frequent early-morning backups, crushing noises and truck traffic.

Owner Iva Barros responded that the business had taken measures to reduce certain noise sources and that some incidents were the result of equipment failure or contractor schedules. "I took care of that," Barros said about prior complaints and explained operational constraints including truck arrival times and the difficulty of fully controlling third-party haulers.

Town staff outlined prior compliance notices and recommended additional verification steps. The board voted to request formal compliance reports from the building commissioner, zoning enforcement officer, police chief, board of health, fire chief and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and to authorize professional sound monitoring. The board also scheduled a public show-cause hearing for Sept. 28 to review licensing compliance and consider further licensing actions.
