Council reads canvass: two proposed charter amendments defeated in May election

The Tangipahoa Parish Council on July 27 read the official canvass of votes from the May 16, 2026 election and adopted an ordinance formalizing the returns.
The clerk reported Proposition 1 received 6,151 votes in favor and 14,002 against and was defeated; Proposition 2 received 6,527 votes in favor and 13,672 against and was defeated. The council moved to adopt TP Ordinance 2621 to canvass and promulgate the results and approved it by roll call.
Council members recorded the results in accordance with statutory canvass procedures; there was no debate and no further action required on the defeated propositions at this meeting.
