District reports HVAC fixes and portable AC units as contingency ahead of school opening

Facilities staff told the board the district manages roughly 5,050 HVAC units and that work over the summer lowered the number of units flagged for repair from 1,156 to about 850. "We've reduced that number now to 850 units," the facilities presenter said, and described a mix of repairs and some new purchases as the district works toward a lower number ahead of the Aug. 3 opening.
Staff said portable air conditioners (roughly 280–300 units) are available as a stopgap when full HVAC repairs cannot be completed before the start of school; contractors and in-house teams are working on assessments and installations. Board members asked for a clearer list of schools with outstanding issues and were told the district processes work orders and addresses roofs, grounds and gym-floor replacements on a school‑by‑school basis.
