Later, Edward Williams, who said he recently purchased 17039 East Hanson Avenue and that the house had belonged to his late grandmother, asked the council for time to file succession paperwork and seek quotes to either restore or demolish the structure. Williams said he was “asking you, could you guys give me time since I have purchased the property” to determine next steps. The council granted a 30‑day extension by roll call vote.
Staff told the council both houses had been reviewed by the ROC and that, without progress, demolition remained the staff recommendation because the structures present dangers to the community. The council’s actions preserve staff authority to move forward if the property owners do not complete repairs or take required action within the extension period.
The actions reported at the meeting were procedural extensions only; staff noted any restoration would need to meet current building standards if an owner pursued repairs. The council said it would revisit the properties after the 30‑day periods.
