Village boards weigh rewriting noise code to make enforcement workable

Planning Board Chair Amy Friskey and others said the village’s noise code has been difficult to interpret and apply to large projects, and a consultant engaged during a recent project offered to draft a corrected code section. "It was challenging to interpret our noise code in applying it to the demands of a large scale project," Friskey said when describing the need to clarify the language.
Attorney Joe McKay and trustees discussed options: McKay said the noise consultant could prepare draft code language for the village and that the village could also adapt similar language used in other municipalities. The board agreed that whether to pay outside consultants or to adapt existing municipal code language will turn on cost and the specificity required; trustees tasked staff to pull together examples and quotes.
