Planning commission tables industrial rezoning, buffer variance to Aug. 25

The Paulding County Planning and Zoning Commission on July 28 tabled an application from Ryan Lawrence seeking to rezone 3.15 acres from R2 suburban residential to I1 light industrial for a construction business and to reduce a 50-foot northern buffer to 25 feet.
Staff described the site at 3166 Hiram Douglasville Highway and recommended approval with two stipulations (GDOT access coordination and the requested variance). Applicant Ryan Lawrence said his concrete construction company currently stores equipment there and employs about 15 full-time workers, increasing seasonally to roughly 20–25. Commissioners noted multiple fuel trucks and tractor-trailers parked on the site during a recent site visit and discussed whether paid parking or semi-truck parking could require a special use permit. With no public speakers for or against the application, a motion was made to table the item to the Aug. 25 planning commission meeting; the motion passed 4–1.
