District joins Food Finders to divert surplus food under SB 1383

She said the district had searched for an agency to partner with for about nine months and that the city’s recent trash‑sorting program facilitated moving forward with this partnership.
When asked how the process will work at school sites, Miss Montalvo said Food Service Supervisor Luis Cuevas will coordinate weekly site pickups and logistics. Board members supported the agreement, and the motion to approve was carried.
The program is presented as an operational step to reduce waste and redistribute usable food to local agencies and families. The contract was approved at the meeting and is intended to implement SB 1383 requirements for edible food recovery.
