The board approved an agreement with Food Finders for a weekly food pickup program designed to comply with California Senate Bill 1383.
Miss Montalvo explained the program: Food Finders will visit each district site weekly (likely Thursday or Friday) to collect leftover shelf‑stable items, fresh fruit and perishable goods that would otherwise expire, using a refrigerated truck. She said the district had searched for an agency to partner with for about nine months and that the city’s recent trash‑sorting program facilitated moving forward with this partnership.
When asked how the process will work at school sites, Miss Montalvo said Food Service Supervisor Luis Cuevas will coordinate weekly site pickups and logistics. Board members supported the agreement, and the motion to approve was carried.
The program is presented as an operational step to reduce waste and redistribute usable food to local agencies and families. The contract was approved at the meeting and is intended to implement SB 1383 requirements for edible food recovery.
