Colfax Police Chief Mike Melcher told council members the active-shooter mass-casualty exercise held June 18 at Colfax High School was successful and included participation from surrounding law enforcement and fire agencies. Melcher said the department is continuing recruitment: one entry-level candidate advanced into the Washington State Patrol's background phase.
Melcher also reported he submitted and received approval for the parade map for the July 26 parade and that he will complete the second portion of a state-mandated training during the coming Tuesday–Thursday. He said calls for service remain consistent and that the department has increased patrols along East Thorn and Cedar streets and issued citations to slow traffic.
