City highlights summer events, K-254 open house and park volunteer opportunities

At the start of the meeting, community groups briefed the council on upcoming local events and volunteer opportunities. The Kechi Fair Committee announced June 13 as the official citywide garage-sale day; Friends of Kechi Park promoted fundraising and a community playground build scheduled for June 8–13 with three daily volunteer shifts; and the Kechi Farmers Market was announced to open June 4 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church parking lot.
The chair also relayed routine service reminders, including required annual backflow-device testing (results due to city hall by May 31) and an arts-council plan to refresh fire hydrants inside the arts/business district. KDOT's K-254 interchange study team will host a public open house June 4 to share proposed concepts and seek public feedback. Residents were given contact and sign-up information for park-board service and volunteer opportunities.
