Maupin council approves $1,000 city grants for senior class and garden club

Council voted unanimously (5-0) to grant $1,000 to the Senior Class Parent Group to help fund senior activities; Mayor Beatty asked student Tegan Sheppard to speak on behalf of the class. Council also approved a $1,000 award to the Maupin Dig & Hoe Garden Club, which cited projects including the Assisted Living Center garden, the Blue Star Memorial, the butterfly garden at the school, and patio improvements at the library. Medy Gantz asked the council to consider raising the grant cap to $4,000 for future rounds.
The Maupin Community Center application was postponed pending a final agreement (current status: 501(c)(3) without a building). Paula Latasa described The Life Raft Pantry's operations and said the pantry serves over 600 people monthly; the pantry is seeking funds to buy a trailer and support operations. Councilors asked about oversight and impact before awarding funds.
