Municipal staff told council the county requested Norristown accept a 9/11 memorial previously located at the courthouse and relocate it to Elmwood Park near the Fire Chief Memorial so families would have public access. The administrator said the memorial had been in private space where families could not visit and that moving it to the park would make it more accessible.
Council asked whether first-responder organizations and families had been consulted; the municipal administrator said the fire chief had been consulted and would make the siting and landscaping look appropriate. The council moved, seconded and approved the authorization to accept and relocate the memorial.
