Councilwoman Maria Inez Wajer and other community speakers urged caution because the site sits near churches, schools and the new library and because the corridor already contains several alcohol‑serving uses. The councilwoman asked the commission to deny the permit; she said the location was inconsistent with investments being made to protect the library and surrounding families.
Commissioners voted to continue the matter so the applicant can meet with the NRZ and confirm arrangements with the library and neighborhood stakeholders before the commission takes final action.
