Controller outlines $715,000 grant rollover and $100,000 contingency shift to legal defenders

Scott Park of the Controller's Office presented routine operating and capital budget adjustments for 2026, calling many of them housekeeping items. He said the county is asking to roll over $715,000 in grant funds from 2025 to 2026, eliminate a $70,000 transfer between the Attorney's office and drug courts because a grant now covers that cost, and transfer $160,000 between public works projects to fund a Mosquito Abatement Project.
Park also told commissioners the county planned to use $100,000 from contingency to support legal defenders because appeals costs are running higher than budgeted. "We want to use $100,000 of our contingency fund to help the legal defenders," Park said. The public hearing was opened and the motion to approve the budget adjustments was moved and approved by unanimous voice vote.
