Franklin to leave Metacomet alliance; Norfolk weighs options for shared public-health services

Matt, Norfolk’s public-health staff representative, told the board the town received a letter indicating Franklin will leave the Metacomet Alliance effective Oct. 1. "We pretty much knew that was going to be coming anyway," Matt said, and he described immediate planning with town managers and the state to decide whether to recruit a third town, form a two-town health district with Wrentham, or have each town revert to individual health staff.
Matt and the town managers said maintaining shared services with Wrentham is the preferred option because operational arrangements and nursing/inspection coverage already function that way. Board members urged outreach to legislators and agreed any structural change would require another board vote; they also noted state funding uncertainty pending the next state budget and said a health district could receive priority funding.
