Vista student council highlights book fair, green-waste program and 'adopt an area' plan

A delegation from the Vista student council presented projects and campus initiatives to the Hermosa Beach City School District board on Dec. 11.
Assistant Principal Allison Montoya introduced the student group, which highlighted the Vista Scholastic Bookfair scheduled Dec. 9–13, coding activities tied to Hour of Code, and a green-waste sorting pilot in partnership with parent volunteers and Grades of Green. One student told the board: "Vista has 5,530 books checked out so far this year, up 13.5% from last year."
Students also proposed an "adopt an area" program to assign grade-level stewardship of campus zones, and described creative efforts to reduce lost‑and‑found items with end‑of‑term fashion shows. Board members praised the presentations and invited students and their supervisor to remain engaged with future planning.
