The Hermosa Beach City School District board certified the district's 1st interim budget report for 2024–25 at its Dec. 11 meeting, with staff telling trustees the district remains physically solvent for the current year and the following two years.
Paula Montalvo, presenting the report as chief business staff, said the district has a “strong reserve ensuring financial stability” and noted that enrollment was adjusted downward from the adopted budget projection. "At budget, we're at 1,440, and now we're at 1,417," she said, describing a drop of roughly 32 students that reduced projected revenue and led to staffing adjustments.
Montalvo told the board that the budget remains reserve‑positive and that the district will continue to monitor average daily attendance, special-education costs and retirement rate assumptions used in multiyear projections. Trustees moved the item for approval and passed the motion on a voice vote.
