Police Chief Michael Melcher updated the council on public safety preparations for the upcoming Concrete River Festival and department staffing. Melcher said the department submitted all parade paperwork for the festival, completed a technical audit with the Washington State Patrol, and is running extra patrols on West Fairview, East Thorn and Cedar to increase visibility during the event.
Melcher also reported one candidate remains in the Washington State Patrol background process and is scheduled for a polygraph exam the following day. He noted House Bill 2015, which focuses on improving safety funding and law-enforcement staffing levels, and said the department will pursue related grant-webinar opportunities to support hiring and operations.
