Mayor Jim Retzer reported on June 16 that he met with 9th District Representative Joe Schmick to discuss delays to the North Main Bridge replacement and the associated roundabout project, which Retzer said has been put on hold for four years. Retzer said he and City Administrator Matt Hammer expressed concerns that further postponement would not serve Colfax’s interests.
Retzer told the council that Representative Schmick had been contacted by the Colfax Chamber with concerns about traffic being rerouted during the project; Retzer clarified that rerouting traffic around Colfax was never the plan and noted that several public meetings were previously held to explain the project. Retzer said Schmick has asked the Department of Transportation to return for public meetings to ensure all parties are aligned. Retzer also said the city plans to install a water service line at the time of bridge replacement.
No new schedule or funding commitments were announced during the meeting. The council did not take formal action at this meeting beyond receiving the mayor’s report.
