Paulding County presents FY2027 budget; millage rates unchanged

County staff opened a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget and outlined the major revenue and expenditure assumptions. Presenters told the board the proposal does not change the millage rate: maintenance and operations would remain at 4.3 mills, bond and interest at 0.8 mills, and the voter-approved fire tax at 2.1 mills. Staff said property taxes make up roughly one-third of general-fund revenues and that sales and title ad valorem taxes are expected to provide modest growth.
"This year's budget does not change the millage rate," one presenter said during the tag-team presentation, adding that the digest had declined somewhat and the county opted to leave the rollback rate unchanged. The presentation also showed an approximate $5.2 million decrease in the capital improvement program compared with the prior year, which staff attributed primarily to large projects that are winding down after recent construction.
The chair opened the hearing to public comment; no residents approached the podium to comment on the budget and the chair closed the public hearing and moved on to other agenda items. The county stated the budget document will be available for public review through August 11, and the board indicated it will consider formal adoption at a future meeting.
