City staff told the council that, given payroll and other overruns, a $50,000 transfer from the general fund reserve will likely be necessary to balance the current-year budget. Staff pointed to high salary percentages in the police budget for May and June and to recent overages in IT costs as contributors to the strain.
The council asked that budget context accompany any proposed contract changes and agreed to review both the contract asks and first-look budget material at the packet for the May meeting. Staff committed to include the contract revisions and a staff report in the May 18 packet.
