Residents urge Nederland to press FAA over low-altitude flight noise

Residents at the July 21 Nederland Board of Trustees meeting urged the board to press the Federal Aviation Administration about a new low-altitude westbound flight path they say has increased noise and disrupted outdoor life in the mountain community. Josh Schlossberg, who said he lives on Wildwood and delivered the petition, told trustees the petition asks the board to "please address the near constant high decibel noise from the low flying aircraft over town."
Several other residents backed the request. David Wood, who lives in Big Springs, said he frequently hears planes while trying to spend time outdoors. Mike Herman, a nearly 30-year resident, described seeing continuous lines of aircraft lights at night and said the noise had forced him inside on evenings he had planned to relax outdoors. Mayor Sterling said he has begun drafting a letter and would consider circulating it to the board for signatures; he also suggested the town coordinate with regional officials who have raised the issue with Rep. Joe Neguse.
