Council hears police commendation and plans follow-up on emergency alert system

City Administrator Ryan Nolan told the council that Police Chief Dave Rash received a commendation from a community member for "help and patience" shown to a person in crisis. Nolan said he, Paige and Chief Rash will attend a Dec. 2 meeting to pursue an emergency push-notification system to notify neighbors of events such as boil-water notices and to improve staff communications.
Later in the meeting Chief Dave Rash referenced a recent death in the community, directed listeners to coverage in the Rogue River Press, and thanked Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Ashland Police for their assistance; he commended Officer Mathews for his medical response. The council took no formal action on these items during the meeting.
