Fire, police and administration report on events, staffing and capital work

During department reports on Aug. 4, firefighter John Lautenslager said the fire department staffed a booth at Concrete River Days and about 100 children completed a safety course behind Wild Ember. Police Chief Michael Melcher reported that a candidate undergoing background checks was disqualified and the department will compile a new candidate list and resume interviews; Melcher said he is also updating policy and procedures.
City administration (Hammer) reported project timing: the fire department roof replacement is slated to begin Sept. 1 and pool renovations will proceed with a concrete pour scheduled for Aug. 11. Hammer also said staff members (Hammer, Kramlich and Amanda Link) will attend a Municipal Budgeting and Fiscal Management workshop later in the week.
