High Plains Mental Health says crisis intervention center nearing completion, aims for May opening

High Plains Mental Health told the Ellis County Commission that construction at the Crisis Intervention Center is progressing and staff hiring is under way, with officials hopeful the facility will open in early May.
"It is door frames are going up and paint is going on the walls...we're still hopeful for a timeline of the end of March, early April that they will give us the keys," the agency representative said while also stating an opening goal for May 4. The representative said the facility will include 23 client rooms (16 beds) and is expected to shorten or eliminate local waits for admission to a state facility.
County officials thanked the agency for the update and expressed support; commissioners noted the county will continue to coordinate with the provider on staffing and drills with local emergency services before opening.
