Tinmouth commissioners question regional energy figures, call for local data

Members of the Tinmouth Planning Commission spent substantial time Nov. 22 challenging the regional planning commission's energy-use estimates and the analytic basis for proposed town targets.
Chair Michael Fowler said the numbers the commission received from the regional planning commission "do not represent" town usage and urged the group to use figures closer to local reality rather than accepting regional averages. Commissioners pointed to local calculations circulated by a resident, Vito, and described examples showing far lower household wood and electricity consumption than the RPC figures imply. One member summarized local testing: "I know I'm using 350 kilowatt hours a month, and that's 4,200 kilowatt hours per year." (Committee member, speaker 2)
Commissioners asked RPC staff for clarifying graphics and suggested the commission collect household-level and business usage data to derive a Tinmouth-specific baseline. They flagged several specific numeric items for follow-up, including the plan's 86,000,000 BTU townwide figure and the number of homes and businesses assumed in the thermal analysis.
