Alan Brooks, owner and founder of Continues Arcade, thanked city officials and local agencies for help opening his new games-and-dining venue in Alexandria City.
"I'm Alan Brooks. I'm the owner founder of Continues Arcade," Brooks said, adding that the venue aims to offer both gaming and an "incredible meal" so patrons can spend the evening socializing and playing. He described the business model as one where customers come for either games or food and often stay for both.
Brooks singled out the mayor, a city councilor, the local chamber, permitting and zoning offices, and the health department, saying those offices helped him navigate startup challenges. "I'm incredibly thankful to have people throughout Alexandria City who were helpful in that endeavor," he said.
He told the audience that public servants generally want to be helpful and encouraged entrepreneurs to request support when needed. He also framed the arcade as part of the community's cultural life, saying, "Alexandria is a very small town" and that "Continues is becoming a part of that community." Brooks described video games as an art form that "invites the audience to interact" and said the arcade aims to provide a space where people can reconnect with that medium.
The presentation was primarily an introduction to the business and an acknowledgement of local assistance; no formal actions or votes were announced during the remarks.
