Council pulls city manager contract amendment for further review

Councilor Pellerin asked that the proposed amendment to the city manager's contract be pulled from the consent agenda for additional review, citing concerns about the severance schedule and unclear deferred compensation language. "That would be an additional month of severance every year going forward based on the city manager having a satisfactory performance review," Pellerin said, noting that the final amendment language she received that afternoon did not include the performance-rating criterion she expected.

Other councilors expressed similar concerns about wording and cross-references to other contract sections. One suggested delaying action until the August meeting so the full contract text and revised amendment language could be reviewed; another noted some proposed items (cost-of-living adjustments) are already being incorporated into payroll and may not be time-sensitive. The council did not take final action tonight; staff were asked to provide a full contract draft and clearer amendment language for consideration at the next meeting on August 12.
