Public works reports major Byway water leak found and repaired; system loss drops to ~2.4%

Wood Village's director of public works reported a successful detection and repair of a multiyear water loss in the Byway area. "Now our leak that we have been searching for for many years, we have found it," the director said, describing the discovery and repair work completed in March. Staff explained the leak had contributed to higher production figures in 2021–2024; April production after repair was about 1,470,000 gallons with estimated loss around 2.4% (roughly 35,000 gallons), down from an estimated 10% loss period earlier.
Public-works staff also described related system maintenance: manhole sealing (11 completed with 14 worked on total), confined-space and locate training for new staff, and unidirectional flushing scheduled to continue across the system; they also noted park maintenance and ball-field scraping work tied to upcoming CDBG projects. Councilors praised staff for sustained data tracking and persistence in finding the leak and for using the information to prioritize repairs.
