Clarinda library awarded $25,000 ARSL grant as attendance rises 53%

Andrew Hoppmann, Lied Public Library director, told the Clarinda City Council that attendance at library programs has increased by 53% compared with last year and announced that the library was selected for an ARSL Literacy Bridges Grant of $25,000 to be spent over two years on adult literacy and digital literacy programming.
"Compared to last year, 53% more people are attending the library programs," Hoppmann said, and he thanked city departments and local businesses that supported the library’s touch-a-truck summer program. The grant award means the library will receive an average of $12,500 per year to support programming and outreach, the director said.
Library funding and community programming were presented as ongoing priorities in the manager and mayor communications portion of the meeting, where city officials noted multiple capital projects are underway but that library services continue to expand.
