The Town of Acton Select Board opened and closed a public hearing on a proposed Conservation Forestry Ordinance on March 19. Daniel Norwood told the board he had received an email question about timber-harvesting authorities and clarified that the draft ordinance does not remove those authorities from the Town; instead, it provides guidelines for the Conservation Committee and future advisory bodies.
Michael Benjamin, chair of the Conservation Forestry Committee, provided background on the ordinance’s development and confirmed the committee would have no enforcement authority because it is an advisory board. Chair David Winchell praised the committee’s efforts, calling the ordinance “well written.” Norwood moved to close the public hearing at 6:07 p.m.; Jon Denekamp seconded and the motion carried. The hearing record will inform next steps in the ordinance process; the committee and board will proceed under the advisory framework described during the hearing.
