Foundation reports growth in school mental-health services, details senior-meals program

Tammy Verhus, interim executive director of the Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation, updated the Eden Plus City Council on the nonprofit's recent work in school mental-health support and senior meal delivery. "We have served a total of 82 students," Verhus said, adding that 62 of those students were at Enumclaw High School, nine at Enumclaw Middle School and 11 at Thunder Mountain. She said six students have "graduated" from counseling.
Verhus described measurable program improvements in behavioral incidents and a small bump in GPA across the cohort, and emphasized continued partnership with the city and schools. On senior services, she said the foundation serves about 66 seniors and has prepared roughly 400 meals per week with the help of about 87 volunteers, delivering six meals weekly through three deliveries. "We have a great staff," Verhus said, noting ongoing volunteer recruitment and the foundation's search for a permanent executive director.
Council members thanked Verhus and the foundation for the programs and their local impact. The presentation preceded routine announcements and the public-comment period; no formal council action was taken on the foundation's report.
