Council approves special exception for woodworking business at 151 Oak St.

The City of Jenkinsburg Council on July 28 recommended approval of a special exception to allow a woodworking and cabinetry home occupation in an existing roughly 4,000-square-foot accessory structure at 151 Oak St. Council Member Gary Roberts moved to recommend the special exception and Council Member Gary Brown seconded; the motion passed with recorded ayes from Joye England, Gary Brown, Gary Roberts and Brent Eberspacher.

Council attached nine conditions to the approval. Conditions include: “An annual business license shall be required”; normal operating hours limited to 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; no more than two customers on site at a time; no more than two employees on premises at a time; indoor-only inventory storage (no outside storage); deliveries limited to normal operating hours; woodworking and cabinet making only; and a requirement that the owner mitigate sound, vibrations, odors and particulates so as not to cause a nuisance to neighboring property owners and residents. The approval was described in meeting minutes as specific to woodworking and cabinet making and associated activities.

The public hearing was opened by Mayor Pro-Tem Jason Watts, who heard comments both supporting and opposing the request before the council voted. The council did not record any additional conditions regarding parking, traffic, or a timeframe for reassessment in the minutes. Compliance steps noted in the record include obtaining the required business license before operation under the special exception.
