Commissioners ask planning director to study a countywide grant-writer position

Vice Chair Lamore proposed creating a full-time county grant-writer to bring more external funding to Monroe County and to support multiple departments. "This person can basically pay for themselves, by putting the economy back into the county rather than us going out and searching for other venues to pay for things," he said during new business.
Several commissioners supported the idea and asked staff to return with a recommended job description and salary range. The motion carried after discussion; the board assigned the study to Jason Berry and his planning office, with a request that he report back on whether the role would duplicate existing department efforts or supplement them. The board did not establish a salary range at the meeting and asked Berry to include average salary ranges and scope in his follow-up report.
