Melanie Scarpacci, director of external relations for Scotty's House, told the council that the center serves Navasota, Grimes County and the seven-county Brazos Valley region and provides forensic interviews, specialized medical evaluations, family support and trauma-focused counseling at no cost to families.
"Our goal is to help those children find safety, healing, and justice," Scarpacci said, summarizing the center's mission and services. She provided 2025 activity numbers for Grimes County: Scotty's House served 76 children from the county, including 40 cases from Navasota; across the county staff conducted 41 forensic interviews and eight medical evaluations, supported 39 families and provided 61 counseling sessions. Scarpacci emphasized prevention and said the center offers free age-appropriate education for children and free training for parents, educators and community organizations.
Scarpacci said the center works closely with Navasota ISD and noted that the prevention curriculum had been approved by the District School Health Advisory Council; she asked the city to help spread information, to welcome tours of the facility, and to consider connecting Scotty's House with local schools, churches and civic groups as the center prepares to move into a larger facility.
